Stupid Scavenger Hunt
A pencil flew across the room and it hit Judy's arm.
Hanson was playing with a pen, so he probably didn't throw it. Penhall was pouring some coffee, and Ioki was reading a magazene. Judy looked around but she didn't know who to suspect... She picked it up. What didn't help was her desk is in the corner, so any one of them could have thrown it.
"Okay who threw it?" She asked eyeing them all and waving the pencil at them.
"What?" Ioki and Penhall asked in unicin. Tom didn't hear her.
"Someone threw their pencil at me!" Judy said. "Hanson, did you?"
Hanson looked up and gave her a confused look. "I only have pens" ... "See I was sharpening my pencils when I was at home and today I forgot them there...."
"Riiiiggghhtt" Judy said suspiciously eyeing them.
"I did!" He argued.
Judy got up and walked over to Tom's desk. She looked at the top and then opened a couple drawers. Nothing. Tom moved back a little so she could inspect the desk all she wanted. "See, no pencils, just like I said."
"Yeah well that could have been the only one you had" She said.
"I only have PENS!" He reaised his voice when he said pens. Tom got up and walked over to the coffee maker. Doug poured him a cup. They watched Judy go over to Ioki.
"Harry, did you throw it?"
"No way Jude! You know me."
"Yeah, okay sorry."
She then started walking straight to Penhall. "Okay Penhall did you do it? Tell me because if you dont, I swear... I'll-"
Doug cut her off "Whoa chill Jude, I didn't throw it I was just getting coffee!"
"Then who threw the pencil!?"
"I dont know!" All three of the guys yelled.
Judy turned and walked back to her desk. She was mad, and all three could tell. They watched her put the pencil in a cup and go back to her work. Tom said something to Doug and went back to his desk. He put his feet up and sat there staring at the ceiling for a while. Fuller came out of his office and called Ioki in. When Ioki came out he headed for the door. He had a new case. Doug was telling some guy a joke and Judy was still doing her paper work.
Ioki was lucky, he had something to do. Tom, Doug, and Judy had nothing to do but paper work. After a while Tom fell asleep with his feet on his desk and Doug went out to get lunch, probably at rocket dog or something. Judy stood up to go ask Fuller if anything at all had come up. But when she took a step there was a very quiet crunch noise. She looked down and saw a line of pencil shavings. She glanced at the pencil that had hit her and it was really sharp. She followed the trail to a shelf, there was a book that was kind of sticking out so she grabbed it. There was a note inside that said : Go to the park and look for a guy wearing all black looking suspicious standing next to the swings at 4:30.
Judy folded the note and put it in her purse. Then she sat at her desk for a while thinking about if she should go or not, she decided to see if the hand writing looked like anyone's she knew. Judy pulled the note out of her purse and studied the writing, it was too nice to be Penhalls, and too avarige to be Ioki's. 'Hanson!' she thought. He was still sleeping so she walked to his desk and grabbed a paper he had been working on. Then she compared the writing styles. 'Nope, not his writing...' She sighed and put his paper back.
Tom moved his foot and then it knocked over a can of Coke on his desk, it made a odd noise and he woke up. "Oh great!" he said jumping up to get some paper towling. He came back a mopped it up. Then Tom sat at his desk for a while longer, he was getting hungry. "Hey Jude? You want to get some lunch?"
"You buying?" She sounded like she cooled off since the pencil incident.
"Yeah, uh Fazolis?"
"Sure"
"Kay lets go" Tom and Judy went to Fazolis and ate. It was 2:00 when they came back. Doug was at the chapel when they walked in.
Doug walked up to them "Where were you two?"
"We went to lunch..." Tom said.
"Yeah, thanks Tom" She said. Tom smiled crookedly and walked away. Doug followed him. He looked like he was on a mission.
"Did you throw that pencil before?" Doug asked.
"No." Tom Replied.
"Then who did?"
"Not sure..." He said sitting at his desk.
Doug shrugged and went to actually start some of his paperwork. So did Tom and Judy. At 4:00 Judy got up and started for the door.
"Where ya goin" Doug asked.
"I have to meet someone, I'll be back soon"
"Okay.. bye"
"Bye"
Judy got in her car and drove to the closest park she knew of. She waited in her car untill 4:30 and then she got out. While she was walking down a path she could see a dark figure standing near a swingset. She walked up to him.
"I got a note that said to meet you here..." She said cautiously.
He nodded and handed her an envelope. Then he walked away down the path. She stood there and watched him disapear. Judy walked back to her car as soon as she got in she opened the blank envelope. There was a picture, it was cut down to fit in the envleope. A picture of a tree, beside it was a bench, like you'd find at a park. She turned it over but there wasn't anything on the back. After studying the picture for a while she then drove back to Jump Street. Judy went to her desk and looked at the picture some more. She was looking at the stuff in the background when she saw a street sign.
"Hey, Sal come here for a second!" Judy said waving him over.
"How may I help you Jude?" Sal asked.
"Let me borrow your glasses."
"Uh sure..." He took off his clumsy looking spectacles and handed them to Judy.
"Thanks" She took them and read the street name. "Granite street..." She said out loud. She handed Sal his glasses and thanked him.
Tom was about to fall asleep again but Doug walked over to him. "Jesus Hanson, were you up all night or somethin' cos you sure look tired"
"Yeah... couldn't sleep" He slurred in a whisper.
"You should go home or somethin'" Doug said.
"No, no, I'll make it... what time is it anyway" Tom asked squinting at Doug.
"It's almost five.. are you sure? I can drive you home after work then, you look about to pass out"
"Sure.. thanks" Tom said almost dozing off in the middle of his sentence.
Doug walked back to his desk.
Judy knew Granite street, it wasn't too far from Jump Street... She decided she would go to the bench after work. Then she opened a new file on her desk to start some more paper-work. 'Better to just forget about it all till then' She thought.
Tom was so drowsy that when Doug woke him up to go home he almost fell over on the way out of the chapel.
"Tom buddy, are you sure you're okay?" Doug asked steadying him.
"Jus' tired..." Tom tried to wake up by standing up straight.
"What were you doing last night?"
"Do me a favor... " Tom said opening his eyes a little. "Punch me or somethin'"
"Tom...?"
"Do it, I gotta wake up enough to walk down the steps..."
"I'm not gonna hit you" Doug said.
"C'mon, I know you want to" Tom smiled tiredly "Besides when will you get another chance to hit me without me hittin' back?"
Doug thought for a second "Okay... uh where?"
"Head, or stomach" Tom still had his eyes half closed, and he slurred his words so much that if you just started talking to him on the street you'd think he was drunk.
"Well, I'm not gonna hurt you so uh here we go..." Doug got ready to sack his best friend.
"Your not gonna tell me which one?"
"No, you'll move" Doug said right before he hauled out and punched Tom in the chin, he may have put a little more force into it than he intended.
"Son-of-a- " Tom got cut off.
"You asked me to!" Doug laughed as Tom rubbed his chin, he was awake alright.
"Yeah well, thought you'd be nice and go stomach..." Tom said. "Actually Doug I think you'd better let me drive myself home"
"Why?"
"Because I might strangle you, then you'd veer off the road and crash my car..." He said looking very serious.
"Well, I'll follow you, in case you doze off and do that yourself"
Tom got in his car and Doug got on his bike. When Tom pulled into his apartment parking lot he waved to Doug. Doug sped past and Tom got back in his car...
'Stupid scavenger hunt' Judy thought going to the park on granite street. She parked her car and started walking down a path to where the bench she thought the picture was of. As she rounded a bend she got a glimpse of a person sitting on the bench. They were reading a magazene so she couldn't see if she knew them. 'I bet its that suspicious guy again.' She thought walking over to him. Judy stopped right in front of him, she still couldn't see who it was though.
He set the magazene down slowly a crooked smile on his face, Tom.
"Tom! It was you all along!" She yelled but couldn't help smiling at him.
"Yep..." He stood up "I need to ask you something.."
Judy looked at him questioningly. Tom pursed his lips and tried to put what he was thinking into the right words.
"Tom? What is it...?" She asked.
"Would you go to dinner with me?"
"Tom, you know you didn't have to have a scavenger hunt to get me to go to dinner with you..." She said studying his eyes and she could see it was more than just dinner. Tom stepped closer to her. He put his arms around her and she held onto him.
They parted slightly to make eye contact again and then Tom kissed her.
